GIVE TO THE HEALTH FINANCE INSTITUTE

Approximately one in three children living with Type 1 diabetes in low-income countries won't make it past their 25th birthday. Over 500 million people or one out of every 16 people in the world are living with Type 2 diabetes.

And, across the globe, there are significant barriers to access to diabetes care.

We must do better.

The Global Burden of Diabetes

  • 422 million people worldwide have diabetes, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
  • It's estimated that the global cost of diabetes will increase from $1.3 trillion in 2015 to more than $2.1 trillion in 2030.*
  • More than 1.1 million children and adolescents have Type 1 diabetes worldwide. Many of them live in low- and middle-income countries with limited or no access to diabetes care. (Global Health Progress)

It's more than just numbers. The inability to access diabetes care creates significant hardships for those living with it. Meet Julissa.

Living in Mexico with T1D is like being invisible. No one knows how many of us live with this disease, and it seems like not a lot of people care. So hearing what HFI intends to do brings me joy and hopefulness that kids and teenagers could have a shot at a higher quality of life.

How HFI is helping to address this gap

  • With a mission to democratize impact investing, the Health Finance Institute is spearheading programs to expand access to diabetes care.
  • Currently, we are in the process of launching two diabetes programs:
in Mexico, where we are working closely with local partners to increase access to life-saving devices for youth living with Type 1 diabetes.
  • In Armenia, we are partnering with the Danish Red Cross to launch the first social impact bond for Type II diabetes in the country.

Help us out in this important effort.

Your generosity will make a difference. Invest in the future, and we will continue to tackle the most pressing global health challenges.
