UNGA 76 recap:
Dynamic blockchain panel, meetings with health leaders, & generous donations

HFI leadership kicked off UNGA week by meeting Dr. Deborah Birx during the 2021 C3 Summit, where she underscored the need to think outside the box in regards to pandemic preparedness.

On September 22, HFI hosted two UNGA side events at the Harvard Club of New York. Our panel on blockchain and philanthropy was a huge success! During this event, we discussed the basics of blockchain, cryptocurrency, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), as well as how to harness blockchain for financing the sustainable development goals (SDGs). We were grateful to have such a knowledgeable group of panelists and engaged audience. Please click on the button below for a full recording of the panel discussion.

After our panel discussion on blockchain, we hosted a high-level dinner with leaders from Mexico, Medtronic, UNICEF, WHO, Sandclock, and more to discuss HFI's vision to develop and launch its first series of innovative finance instruments to stimulate the research, development, and mass production of affordable life-saving glucose monitoring devices for children and youth in select LMICs. One of the exciting outcomes of this dinner was a generous NFT donation from Sandclock in the form of digital art. This piece of artwork will be auctioned on October 18, and HFI looks forward to sharing more details about this commitment soon!

Can DALYs and QALYs become the next carbon footprint?

As part of PLOS' Scientists for Open Science series, HFI was invited to share our perspectives on the impact of data. A thought leader in this space, we are regularly unpacking big questions, such as, what would a world and economy look like where a DALY or QALY averted was just as valuable as a unit in CO2 emissions curbed? What can the global health community learn from the climate science journey to ensure that the value of health is represented in global economic standards and decision-making? Click on the button below to read our blog post for PLOS where we discuss the importance of using impact metrics to drive investments in health.

Mental health blog series

The COVID-19 pandemic has upended health systems and exacerbated the global mental health burden. Our two-part mental health blog series explores (1) the disproportionate impact of the global mental health crisis on women due in part to gendered labor dynamics and (2) how to address this crisis through public-private funding. Click on the buttons below to read our posts.
