HFI CEO Andrea Feigl Joins WHO NCD Hard Talk

On February 16, 2022, HFI CEO Dr. Andrea Feigl joined the WHO-led NCD Hard Talk entitled ”Health, Money, and Power: Influencing the Trajectory to 2025 and 2030”. Panelists discussed how the NCD community is using increasingly sophisticated analytical tools to determine the needs and benefits of investing in health. The speakers also discussed effective leadership and what is needed to push for innovative changes in health systems to strengthen governance and financing of NCDs. The conversation highlighted how political aspects contribute to whether certain tools are implemented properly, emphasizing the importance of advocacy and high-level commitments to alleviate suffering and premature mortality.

Dr. Feigl's presentation focused on the types of blended and innovative finance that may be applicable in the chronic disease healthcare delivery and financing space. Additionally, HFI presented early results of a forthcoming working paper detailing a novel framework where innovative finance can play a role in the healthcare value chain.

HFI Continues Support to Type 1 Diabetes Program in Mexico

Since Fall 2021, HFI has been working together with the leadership in Jalisco, Mexico, as well as other partners, to support the rollout of “La Salud Como un Derecho, y no un Privilegio" (Health as a Right, and not a Privilege). This initiative aims to provide education, access, and support for children living with Type 1 Diabetes. Children in these areas lack sustained access to appropriate insulin and related glucose measurement devices.

On February 22, HFI joined the Jalisco State Political leadership, Mexican diabetes-focused NGOs, including former professional footballer and advocacy figure in Mexican sports, Rafa Marquez, to present both charitable and government commitments and plans for the opening of the Type 1 Diabetes Center. As part of its further commitment for 2022, HFI can:
  1. Identify and introduce charities and partners who can provide donations (financial or in-kind)
  2. Broker partnerships between medical device, pharmaceutical and other strategic partners to build the evidence base and accelerate interventions for T1D-affected children and youth
  3. Broker partnerships with potential collaborators nationally and internationally, to address bottlenecks related to glucose monitoring device supply
HFI will join the governance committee of this initiative to support connecting relevant players to this initiative, and to help investigate the economic and health impact, and the promise towards creating greater access to life saving drugs and devices for underserved children and youth in Jalisco, Mexico, and globally, under the D4DC (Devices for Development Consortium) initiative.
